A Memory that Lived

I sit here pondering,
As my thoughts keep wondering.
Young teens in the gym fills the noise.
Remembering the times of my own old joys.
Being reminded of past friends,
And how with them life felt endless.
My memories cloudy yet never forgotten,
Enemies, acquaintances and companions-
how I cherish each moment with all of them.

My back rests against the concrete
wall,
Closing my eyes, into the past I fall.
Loud laughter echoes, calming my ears,
Hours spent sharing our hopes and
fears.
Her smile, so bright, so full of cheer,
Frizzy hair, and a heart that holds
friends near.
Now she walks by with a simple hi,
But I’ll never forget the light she gave my life.

My face scrunches from the sight of
numbers,
So my mind often wanders.
To the time I bother the guy next me,
Asking numerous questions like a
buzzing bee.
The curly hair and the honeyed skin,
His patience for me I could never pin.
Though our time was brief and few,
He would be the person I look up to.

Betrayal often lingers in my mind.
Her long hair, glasses, and quiet grace,
Our moments were gentle, always kind-
So why was I left in that cold, still place?
Time moves on, and so does forgiveness,
So rather than shut her out completely,
I keep this memory as a sign, quiet but real-
Of a friendship that once lived sweetly.
